Graham Dickson is professor emeritus at Royal Roads University and still teaches there. He was the founding director of the Centre for Health Leadership and Research. His specialty is leadership development and succession planning within the health sector.
Graham was the principal investigator in the cross-Canada research project on the LEADS in a Caring Environment framework, which is being used to define the standards of effective health systems leadership in many jurisdictions. This framework has been endorsed by the Health Care Leaders’ Association of British Columbia, the Canadian College of Health Leaders and the Canadian Health Leadership Network, which comprises more than 32 national and provincial health organizations, including the Canadian Medical Association. Janice is the Belzberg Professor of Conflict Management in the department of political science and the director of the Munk Centre for International Studies, Toronto. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and author of more than 80 books, book chapters and articles on intelligence, international security, peacemaking and public policy and negotiation processes. Recent publications she has written or contributed to include: Networks of Knowledge: Collaborative Innovation in International Learning (2001); The Cult of Efficiency (2001); Street Protests and Fantasy Parks (2001), and the prize-winning The Unexpected War: Canada in Kandahar (2007).
She has received the Mershon Prize for outstanding contribution to public education on issues of national security. Janice has also been active as a member of international advisory panels including the Committee on International Conflict Resolution of the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, DC, and the Committee on International Security of the American Academy of Sciences. She has served as chair of the research advisory board to Canada's minister of foreign affairs and as a member of that ministry's Middle East advisory group, and often provides news commentary for CBC and TVO television.
Jeffrey received his PhD in health economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. He also holds a master's in economics from Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor of arts degree in quantitative economics and decision sciences from the University of California at San Diego. He has taught health economics and economic evaluation classes in Canada, the United States and internationally.
Currently, Jeffrey is pursuing research on how to make health economics more useful to decision-makers. Special interests include health services research related to cancer and mental health and other health issues affecting poor and vulnerable populations. Peter Kuling is an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine, University of Ottawa. He works with The Ottawa Hospital Academic Family Health Team (TOHAFHT) where he has served as both Lead Physician and Unit Director of the TOHAFHT.
Peter acquired extensive experience in the political environment as President, Saskatchewan Medical Association and through an extended term as Chair of the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) Political Action Committee (PAC). He also served as Chair of several related CMA advocacy committees. As PAC Chair, he championed the MD-MP Contact Program, the CMA's grassroots lobbying initiative, which has been effective in influencing public policy on health care. He oversaw successful campaigns to ban tobacco advertising at sporting and cultural events and to obtain increased funding for health care. He remains an active supporter of the MD-MP Contact Program and is also involved in the professional development of physicians as lobbyists.
As a faculty member of Joule’s Physician Leadership Institute and of the Ontario College of Family Physicians, Peter delivers a range of advocacy, leadership and best practice programs. An Expert Advisor for Accreditation Canada International, he also delivers leadership and quality improvement education sessions internationally.
A strong advocate for Family Medicine as a critical component of health care in both Canada and abroad, Peter has lectured in Family Medicine and Continuous Quality Improvement at the University of Fukui, Fukui City, Japan and was a visiting scholar in primary care departments at universities in The Netherlands and New Zealand. He is actively involved in the Family Medicine Demonstration Project, Ottawa-Shanghai Joint School of Medicine.

Susan is a professor and the vice-chair, education in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. She is the director of academic leadership development for the Centre for Faculty Development, Faculty of Medicine at St Michael's Hospital and the associate director of the Research, Innovation and Scholarship in Education (RISE) program of the Department of Psychiatry. Susan has been practising geriatric psychiatry at Baycrest since 1985. She has a master's degree in education and an international master's in health leadership.
Susan's scholarship focuses on the design and evaluation of leadership development programs for health professional educators, academics and practitioners. She has been widely recognized for her excellence in teaching and innovative program development. She has been a faculty member for numerous leadership programs, including those of the Canadian Leadership Institute in Medical Education. She also co-chaired the development of the 2009 Royal College of Physician and Surgeons "train the trainer" program for the CanMEDs manager role.
Ian is a public health professor at the University of Waterloo, where he also serves as the university's executive director for health research. He works in information management, with a particular interest in how technology can be used to support decision-making by clinical providers and health care mangers. Lately, Ian has been exploring this issue in the context of pandemic planning and incident response strategies.
Ian's work on funding and financial reporting in health care has contributed to several commissions and reports, including the Romanow and Clair (Québec) reports. Gautham Suresh is a Professor of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas and a neonatologist and Medical Director of the Newborn Center at Texas Children's Hospital. He is a graduate of the Masters Program at The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice (previously called the Center for Evaluative Clinical Sciences) where his concentration was Continuous Quality Improvement in Healthcare.
After his fellowship in neonatology at the University of Vermont, he served as a faculty member there and was a postgraduate fellow at the Vermont Oxford Network. He has worked closely with the Vermont Oxford Network for many years, as a faculty member of the Vermont Oxford Network's quality improvement collaborative, the Neonatal Intensive Care Quality (NICQ) project, and as an advisory board member for NICQ. He has set up and directed educational courses on patient safety, on evidence-based medicine and on the ACGME core competencies for medical students, pediatric residents, and neonatology fellows.
He is the director for a course on patient safety at The Dartmouth Institute. He is the author of several peer reviewed scientific publications, presentations and book chapters on quality improvement, patient safety and evidence-based medicine, including Cochrane systematic reviews. He is currently conducting research on and teaches about Patient Safety and medical errors.

Dr. Gaétan Tardif is a consultant at the University Health Network and a Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto. He recently retired from his role as Physiatrist in Chief and Medical Program Director, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, a hospital of the University Health Network. Gaétan continues to be involved in leadership development. At Joule, he teaches strategic thinking and entry into practice workshops.
Gaétan is a Past-President of the Canadian Society of Physician Leaders and of the Canadian Association of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. He was the President and Chair of the Board of the Canadian Paralympic Committee from 2013 to 2017. He first started his Paralympic journey as a member of the medical team for the Sydney and Athens Paralympic Games, as well as Chief Medical Officer for the Salt Lake City and Torino Paralympic Games. He served as Assistant Chef de Mission for the Beijing 2008 and Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Games and Chef de Mission for the Canadian Team at the 2012 London Paralympic Games. He was first elected to the board of the Canadian Paralympic Committee in 2008.

Kevin is an Associate Professor of Organizational Behaviour at the Schulich School of Business, York University. Prior to joining Schulich he was an Associate Professor, and Director of the MBA program, at the DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University. He holds an MSc. in Health Administration and received his doctorate from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. Recently, his research has focused on ethical influences on negotiator behavior and the transfer of negotiation skills back to the workplace. He is also on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Organizational Behavior and teaches courses in Managerial Negotiation and Organizational Behavior at the masters and doctoral levels. In 2008 he was awarded the Basu Teaching Award by the MBA student association at McMaster and in 2012 and 2013 was nominated for the Sydney Schulich MBA Award for Teaching Excellence. Finally, he is a co-author of Essentials of Negotiation, first published in 2011 and now the most widely used negotiation textbook in Canadian business schools.

Dr. Tepper is a family physician and the President and Chief Executive Officer of North York General Hospital.
Previously, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Health Quality Ontario (HQO). An arm’s length agency of the provincial government, HQO works in partnership with Ontario’s health care system to support a better experience of care, better outcomes for Ontarians and better value for money.
Prior to HQO, Dr. Tepper was the inaugural Vice President of Education at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. As Vice President, he was responsible for Sunnybrook’s educational strategy and programming for learners, physicians and staff, patients and their families and the community. Prior to joining Sunnybrook, Dr. Tepper was Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) in the Health Human Resources Strategy Division of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. As the ADM he led the HealthForceOntario health human resources strategy to ensure that Ontarians have access to the right number and mix of qualified health care providers, now and in the future.
In addition to his involvement in health policy and research at the provincial level, Dr. Tepper has also been active on a national scale as the senior medical officer for Health Canada, an adjunct scientist at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES), and a research consultant for the Canadian Institute of Health Information (CIHI). He has received several provincial and national awards for his leadership in these positions.
Dr. Tepper has always remained in active practice serving marginalized populations and taking on clinical leadership roles. John has 25 years of experience as a Neonatologist, the first 10 as a clinician-researcher, the next 15 in different leadership roles, including medical director of several neonatal intensive care units, the Pediatric Home Nutrition Program for Northern Alberta, the neonatal initiative for Collaborative Practice and Quality Improvement and, Regional director of the Northern Alberta Neonatal Intensive Care Program. Under his leadership and with the support of a large team, the latter program integrated 115 neonatal beds and one follow-up clinic in 5 different hospitals under one functional umbrella. After Alberta, he also served for a few years as Regional Medical Director for Neonatology at Fraser Health in BC. He is a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the Universities of Alberta and BC, and Associate Faculty for the Master’s Program in Health Leadership at Royal Roads University in Victoria, BC. He served on many committees for regional, provincial and national organizations, including the Alberta Clinician Council, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Alberta, the Canadian Paediatric Society and, presently, as the President of the Canadian Society for Physician Executives.
John holds a PhD in Medical Sciences, a Master’s degree in Leadership Studies and has published >70 peer-reviewed papers, 20 book chapters and 140 abstracts. He has 20 years of medico-legal experience and has provided/continues to provide consulting services for many academic and health care organizations. Presently, he is the editor of the Canadian Journal of Physician Leadership and researches several aspects of physician leadership. John practices systems theory by living in a self-sustainable house and by exploring forest regeneration, while his wife grows year-round organic food.
Kishore is a graduate of the College of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan, where he is now clinical associate professor of surgery. Since 1992, he has practised urology in Saskatoon and is head of the Division of Urology for the Saskatoon Health Region.
Kishore's interests are quality improvement and clinical practice redesign. He leads Saskatoon Urology Associates' Advanced Access project - an initiative to improve access to specialist consultation. He is also clinical lead for the Health Quality Council's Chronic Disease Management Collaborative. Kishore teaches the principles and application of health care quality improvement to health care students and professionals at the University of Saskatchewan, and in conferences across Canada.

Frank Wagner is a Bioethicist with the Joint Centre for Bioethics, and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, University of Toronto. Frank is also a faculty member of the Canadian Medical Associations’ Physician Management Institute (PMI). He holds degrees in physical anthropology (BA) and medical anthropology (MA), and is a graduate of the MHSc program in Medical Ethics at the University of Toronto.
Frank is also deeply involved in health care management and policy in Ontario. He was the founding Bioethicist and a member of the Senior Leadership Team at the Toronto Central Community Care Access Centre (CCAC). He completed a nine year term as a Trustee of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, was chair of its Patient Care Committee, Chair of the Selection Committee for Chief, Musculoskeletal Program, and Chair of the Selection Committee for Chief, Family and Community Medicine. He is the ethicist on the Health Quality Ontario (HQO) Ontario Health Technology Advisory Committee (OHTAC), which provides advice to the Ontario Ministry of Health regarding the uptake, diffusion, and distribution of new health technologies. He is also Chair of OHTAC’s Public Engagement Subcommittee, was Chair of the Provincial Expert Panel on Celiac Disease, and a member of the Provincial Expert Panel on Epilepsy. He is also a member of the Law Commission of Ontario’s advisory committee on legal issues impacting seniors in Ontario.
Mary has spent more than 25 years in the business of helping individuals and organizations through the change process. She is director of the Physician Workplace Support Program, a unique service offered through the Physician Health Program of the Ontario Medical Association. Her expertise is in the area of leadership development, team effectiveness, performance management, meeting and retreat facilitation, human resources management, curriculum design and quality improvement. Prior to joining the OMA, Mary was director of organization development/quality workLife at York Central Hospital, now called Mackenzie Hospital, in Richmond Hill, Ontario, where she provided leadership for initiatives related to learning, organizational transformation and improving quality of work life for staff.

Michael has devoted his career to helping others uncover new and innovative ways to tackle complex challenges, and is a pioneer of using complexity science-based approaches, including ‘Positive Deviance’ and ‘Front Line Ownership’. Michael has advised organizations in Canada, and internationally, such as the World Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Hand Hygiene New Zealand, the Irish Health Services Executive and the Maryland Patient Safety Center. In 2010 he founded Ignite Consulting to help support his consulting work.
In 2015, his interest in physician leadership and organizational culture led him to become Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee at UHN, as well as Program Director of the Ontario Medical Association/Canadian Medical Association Physician Leadership Development Program, developed and offered by the Schulich Executive Education Centre. He currently is a member of the Board of Directors at UHN as well as BlueDot, a Toronto-based technology company focused on infectious diseases preparedness.
Michael holds Masters degrees from McGill University in Montréal and the University of Toronto and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in infectious diseases.
Judith John’s career spans all aspects of communications, marketing and public affairs, with an extensive background in arts, culture, not-for-profit, health and social services.
Ms. John was a hospital executive and remains active in health care. She was Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs at the Hospital for Sick Children and Vice President of Communications and Marketing at Mount Sinai Hospital and Foundation. Ms. John works with Toronto Western Hospital, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, University Health Network, Michael Garron (Toronto East General) Hospital and Sinai Health System, concentrating on the patient experience, partnerships and communications. She handled government and stakeholder relations for the Council of Academic Hospitals Ontario.
As a patient advocate, Ms. John has extensive speaking experience, including as keynote presenter for Health Quality Ontario, the Michener Institute convocation, University of Toronto, Schulich School of Business, the Ontario Brain Institute, several LIHNs, Addiction and Mental Health Foundation, McMaster Health Forum and the Acquired Brain Injury Society. A patient advisor for UHN’s Partners in Care program, Ms. John is a trained Patient Partner. She was part of the Province of Ontario’s Phoenix Project on education and patient care, and Patients Canada. She was on The Change Foundation patient/family centred care awards panel.
She currently chairs the Province’s Quality Management Partnership Citizen Advisory Committee, and sits on the Partnership’s Healthcare System Reference Group, senior leaders from organizations having systems role in healthcare quality. She was part of the Ontario Brain Institute International Review Panel and McMaster Health System Sustainability Forum.

Phil Cady is President of Cognitive Leadership Strategies West (CLSWEST) and founding partner of the LEADS Learning scholar practitioner network. Phil’s previous career was as an officer in the Canadian Forces. Since 1997 Phil has enjoyed his role as an Associate Faculty member in the Master of Arts in Leadership (Classic, Health Care, past Justice and Public Safety Leadership specializations) and MBA programs at Royal Roads University. He is also a faculty member for the Physician Leadership Institute, and the Conference Board of Canada’s Director’s College. Phil serves on several organizational boards and frequently volunteers his services to non-profit and social-mission-driven organizations. He is an active Doctor of Social Sciences student at RRU and is studying and researching in the area of complexity science and social systems leadership.
Phil has brought leadership and learning opportunities to organizations of all sizes and complexity from across the world. His passion for studying, designing, and facilitating whole systems transformation has afforded him many incredible opportunities to study and provide consultation on system leadership and strategy formulation for many private and public organizations. He has observed and coached over 1000 teams in simulation and workplace settings, designed, delivered and managed leadership development programs and online leadership assessment tools for private and public companies alike. Phil lives in beautiful Brentwood Bay on Vancouver Island where he also enjoys a busy family life with his spouse, Cindy, and three young children aged eleven and under.
